Some weird stuff about me
Big shout out to Audrey who is my favourite bad apple (Hi Audrey, over here, Hi, we heart you Audrey!) and has given me much needed blog fodder for today. So while I continue to answer calls from inane people who probably should put their computers back in their boxes and crawl into the box themselves, here are some things that people might consider weird or not know about me.
So there you have it, those are my 6 bizarro or not so bizarro things about Romilly the Blonde Amazonian Librarian Chick. Oh she who can repair your car, catch you fish for dinner, pick some vegies or salad greens (I can even grow spotatoes so fish and chips it is!) as an accompaniment to go with it and even brew you a pretty decent beer to top it off. And you know I will always have a clean toilet, the lights on and nothing on my floor after picking it up with my feet. Yeah!
- Yes, I have a fear of the dark thing happening. For years I couldn’t sleep without a light on, and even when I moved into my house on my own, I used to have a candle burning in a crystal holder (so it wouldn’t tip over and burn my place down while I slept) just so I could have that ambient light. Then it would go out while I was asleep and all would be cool. And even though I will be a whole 30 years young this year, I still jump onto my bed from as far away as possible in case the monster underneath grabs my feet. Mate, I’m going to be a shocker if I ever have kids.
- Public toilets weird me out. I just can’t do it. I would prefer to ‘hold it’ rather than use a stinky public facility. At my place of employment we have student facilities that us staff have to use as well and I don’t know what some international students do but I have seen some gross things in my time. Shoes prints on a toilet seat are not good. Also why is it Asian students insist on using the phone while they are in a cubicle? Nothing like the sound of toilets flushing and hand dryers blowing while you’re chatting away I guess.
- I can’t mix my vegies with my meat when I’m eating. I will eat my broccoli separately to my carrots, or cauliflower but happily mix my mashed spotatoes and gravy with steak. No broccoli and gravy and steak, that is just wrong. Each vegie is consumed separately, exceptions for spotatoes. My dad does the same thing. And yes, I said spotatoes.
- In high school when I told people I was going to become a librarian, I was told I was nuts and some boys even said and I quote ‘what a waste.’ It was the exact same reaction I got when I told people I was going to become a nun. I don’t know if it had anything to do with the fact that I’m 6 foot tall, slim, blonde, and could have done modelling except for a bike accident that greyed one of my front teeth and split my lip leaving me with a small scar under my nose(how fickle is the world of modelling? Curse you Miss June Dally-Watkins). I rocked up to an airport counter once on my way to a Library Conference wearing lycra dark blue jeans, fitted t-shirt, hair out and sporting a cap that had blazoned across it LIBRARIAN. Airport dude, after giving me the once over said ‘what’s with the cap?’ I told him I was a librarian, and after another once over he said ‘you’re kidding me. You sure don’t look like a librarian’. Yes, sonny, left my twinset and pearls at home. n00b
- I can fix a car, as in strip it back to bare metal, spraypaint, sandblast, weld, do minor mechanicals, and understand it all. I also fish, can bait my own ganghook thank you very much and I have a boat licence. I’m also a girl. Oh, and I can make my own spirits and beer too. What can I say, it’s the Polish/European heritage in me. We like to drink. I can also grow my own vegetables and have recently been picking the biggest pumpkins. I don’t think any of this is weird, my ex-husband thought that it was though.
- I can grip things with my toes. It’s like my feet are hands and my toes are like fingers. I can pick things up and even wiggle individual toes. I’ve broken the joints in both my big toes after a library related accident (don’t drop 30kilos of books on feet kiddies, toes are delicate and need looking after), but I can still bend those even and pick things up. I can grip Riff’s fingers really tightly with my toes and it freaks him out. Plus when I watch teev, I sit with my 2 big toes entwined together. My ex used to say he thought they were rooting or something. He’s just a freak though.
So there you have it, those are my 6 bizarro or not so bizarro things about Romilly the Blonde Amazonian Librarian Chick. Oh she who can repair your car, catch you fish for dinner, pick some vegies or salad greens (I can even grow spotatoes so fish and chips it is!) as an accompaniment to go with it and even brew you a pretty decent beer to top it off. oh rom, i love that you're a librarian! i'd love to have a hat that said 'librarian' but it would be a lie because i'm not...
i also used to get freaked out by public toilets. i had to do the whole papering of the seat thing everytime i went. it was time consuming and eventually i think i just said, ah to hell wid it.

I used to paper the toilet seat, these days I still grab a huge wad of paper and give it a quick scrub down.
Boy, I feel like such a freak...bt you should see some of the students who use the bathrooms around here, ew.
