View from the Kitchen Window moment #1

Seen on the front of a box of Bushells tea-bags:

A lovely looking cup of tea with the caption 'serving suggestion'. Dude, dont know about you but I prefer to serve my tea in a bucket with a very large straw. Ok, maybe not, but my mug looked nothing like the picture so I've taken their suggestion on board, thank you very much.

How else can I serve my tea? How do you serve yours?

Baby blues

In the beginning there was the word, and the word was baby. Everything was baby. baby this, baby that.

April last year Riff and I decided that heck, we were engaged, we both wanted children sometime before my eggs became too old and his hair got even greyer so we talked and decided 'hey, what the hell, let's give it a shot. Should take a few months, right?' Wrong. Snap first month. Seemed child was going to happen straight away.

But then week 6 kicked in and there was the dreaded 'oh crap, have I just lost something that I didn't realise I had?' trip to the docs. Scan showed a tiny tiny little space prawn looking thing that had a heartrate faster than the drummer from Def Leppard could tap out a solo. (Did you know that dude's got one arm?) Houston, there was a baby, and while it had almost not been a baby, it was still there.

Fast forward through my 30th birthday, no alcohol, us not telling anyone except my folks who of course had guessed, and a few super close friends who I had been plying for information right from the work go. (Hi Antigone) Week 18, routine tests arrived.

Blood test, all clear. Phew.
Scan. Oh yes, fingers and toes all present and accounted for. Oh, but looky here. Seems you have some strange things going on, how about you go off to the hospital for so more indepth scans and specialist check-ups. Crap. We had presence of a rather unusally large cyst in the cranial cavity, which in terms I could understand meant, a large amount of fluid was doing some pushing on the brain. Add to that the fact that the child was missing an artery through the umbilical cord. Yuh hah, bloody pumping but having to pump super harder since there was one less channel. What did this mean? Well, Mister Specialist who gets an award in scare mongering proceeded to 'encourage' us to take further tests. With a 1 in 300 chance that the child would die from those tests anyways but as he said 'if the tests show anything up, then that would mean the child would either die before birth, be born and die shortly there after, or be born and be so severely disabled that it might be a saving grace.' What the! Some scary shit at that stage, oh and it was only 2 days before the wedding and picking up the house keys. Bloody hell.

We nitched the tests, thought we'd take our chances and see what happened. 28 week scan showed cyst had dissolved but artery was still missing of course. Regular Doc filled us in that this wasn't a bad thing and that child was still developing fine. WHY THE HELL DIDN"T THE FIRST DUDE TELL US THIS!!!

And now we're at 41 weeks almost. Yup, this child who previously didn't seem to want to hang around, caused some super-sized headaches and basically made me wonder sometimes where the hell the escape key was to get me out of this scenario is hanging around. Yup, overdue, uncomfortable, and really quite ready to be able to tie my own shoelaces again. I guess it's good that we've made it this far, But come on little person, give me a break. Isn't it time we met this bundle of soggy-cryingness who has given us some really interesting headaches in the past?

Doc appointment tomorrow, if he recommends I make another 'just in case' appointment for a fortnight, I am going to scream. Bad enough I have a 'just-in-case' next Friday. Any bets that I make it to that one?

Ok

Well it's been a long time coming but here finally is a brief update on the wedding. Well we'll start with that at least.

Week up to the wedding was nuts. I'd started the new job and that was kicing along strong. Finished work with 2 days to go and then spent the next 2 days going from all those appointments girls do to make themselves look purty, to running around trying to get halls decorated, track down lost decorations and try to remember not to drink due to a child that was seriously lagging all my energy. Hey, being pregnant is a big chore sometimes!

The day finally arrived, Riff and I sat and had a cuppa and a chat to just well, chat about the day ahead, then before I knew it, the make-up lady was walking in the door and it was time for Riff to head to my folks house to go get dressed.

The day was great! Not too stressy as you would expect a wedding day to be. Only dramas included:
hair lady getting lost and arriving late,
One of the bridesmaid arriving late but by fluke it worked out well timed anyways,
Us starting our photos late and then only just finishing as the car arrived to pick us up,
my nanna being sick on the day and not making it there,
the boys forgetting the rings and having to ring someone else to pick them up,
no power to where the celebration was but my friend who was singing improvised and sang us down the 'aisle'.

So I had a ball on the day. Riff and I pretty much just chatted to each other the whole time and got in trouble when it came time for photos, we had to shut up so we could smile! Sponge (little sister) didn't show up and didn't tell anyone that she wasn't showing up. Just pulled a no-show. 3 of Riffs friends who had rsvp'd as 'yes' didn't show either and there has been no word since from them. I still think that incredibly rude of them.

The day was lovely, stormed later that night which was a lovely way to finish it all off. My older sister Hormonal announced after the wedding that she was pregnant which was a surprise so there were happy tears all round. At least she was nice enough to wait till after the event to tell people, for once she didn't flog the limelight from someone else!

So many smiley photos of the day, some pretty good memories, and for such a simple event (I thoroughly recommend the lunch-time event, all over by 3 and you can go home and have a sleep!) it was great.

Big thanks to my folks for all the work they did, Antigone for making it down from northwards for the weekend and being my right-hand chick, of course Riff for putting up with me being a frantic idiot and all the folk who came on the day and didn't start any fights, smiled in photos, had fun, and gave us stuff!

Next up when I find a chance to sit without killing my joints (man babies put some serious stress on joints), the honeymoon and dramas that unborns cause. ;-)

Wotaweek

Ok, so it's been a little while. Sue me.

So hey, remember me? Yes, life got away for a while there, it's been crazy.

Recap: Started new job. Awesome really, the phone doesn't ring, I can sit with my headphones on and work away merrily and I actually am getting work done! I don't have time to read the Interweb like I used to, but I am more than enjoying myself with this new team. The people are pretty cool and it's been a great change. Token I know you miss me, and I miss you guys too, but I must say this has been a very welcome change for the next few months. So thats working in my favour currently.

We got the house, the big dream one that we saw that already had a contract. Well after lots of stuffing around, the last contract fell through, ours kicked in and after 3 weeks of trying to get the bloody bank to get off their behinds and do sometihing, they came through on the very last day of our contract extension. Crazy. So Friday afternoon about 5 minutes to 4, we got the call. Yay, we're in super amounts of debt! Woot.

I have a very small belly baby wise. Nothing much happening there except some scans came back not so good, so we just have to wait and see what is happening. 8 more weeks till next scan to see if everything is developing as well as it should be. Suck part is that all this stuff happens intenally and you can't see what is going on! Can be quite infuriating really.

And it is less than a week till the wedding.

Younger sister is not making any appearance at all, older sister is pissed that we are daring to have the event at 10:30am which will interfere with her giving her child morning tea. And then lunch, why does it have to be at 12, or before then? Dont we know that she has to get Princess home for a sleep? I stood at the window while Mum was on the phone to her shouting out 'Dont bother coming, I won't be offended honest'. Mum and I have a pool going to see who on the day is going to cause a scene. Someone always does. And don't get me started on table settings. So far; in the dress making we have run out of the lace for the overskirt, my shoes are not appropriate, our MC has a cold and is hoping to have her voice back by then, my nanna has decided that she isn't too old and tired to come along now, 2 of Mum's brothers are hating each other and can't sit together or anywhere near each other, one of them can't sit with anyone else either, we have no honeymoon booked since boarding kennels for the dogs are booked out (may have found one, but only for a week), and I've almost bailed on the event twice. Plus, the one person who I thought might have the foresight to organise a hen's party or kitchen tea or whatever the heck people have these days has run off with my brother and I haven't seen her for weeks. So no celebration for me, man, wouldn't even have minded getting together with some folk for coffee!

On the yay side, this time next week I will be married, the wedding and all it's organising will all be over, we pick up the keys to the new house the next day, my older sister will be on her way back home, I'll be on holidays with Riff and we might have finished painting and cleaning this place for selling, we can concentrate on moving, baby stuff and I can go back to never hearing from my sisters again. That sounds quite bad doesn't it. It's true though, they are quite not very nice.

So fingers crossed that the week goes well. Fingers, legs, arms, toes, whatever I can cross really. Forecast is for rain, we can only hope. ;-)

Fashions on the field

I had to share this one...

I work in an area where there are a remarkable number of people from differing backgrounds so everyday you tend to see something that just makes you stop and think 'you've got to be kidding me' or 'have I walked into a timewarp' or my favourite 'you're mother let you out of the house looking like that?!'

Now, I'm not the most fashionable person, pieces of my wardrobe are at least 4 years old but they are comfy, looked after and I don't dress to shabbily if I do say so myself (says me clad in maternity jeans which I think frankly look Hawt! (to claim Stephs word), black ankle boots and a rather saucy little black knit (hey, it was blowing a gale and freezing this morning!)). But as I was wandering through the corridor the other day, I had to stop and do a double take.

Cowboy boots in patchwork, yes, patchwork. Demin, red leather, brown suede and some black shiny material. All made into a cowboy book.
Then black tights to just above said boots.
3 tiered denim skirt with white lace underskirt, almost like a tutu.
White lace shirt, worn under a black cardigan worn under a denim bolero jacket.
Black teased hair.
Black raccoon eye liner.

Only thing missing was the black or white lace gloves.

HULLOOO WE"VE GONE BACK TO THE 80'S!!!

I fully expected to see a Michael Jackson look alike walk past shortly after, especially someone who looked like him before he discovered skin bleach and his nose fell off.
