Banking customer service

*ring ring* goes the ol’ mobile except it doesn’t really ring, it has some dicky Nokia ringtone that I can’t imitate via text.

Hello, Romilly speaking.

Hullo am I speaking to Ms Rhymy?

Um, er yes.

Hullo Ms Rhymy, my name is *owhvojgheroht* and I am from your financial institution. Today I would talk with you about your credit card you have with us. Is now a good time to talk?

Yeah, sure. [Why does this guy sound like one of the waiters at my favourite Indian restaurant? Has my bank gone all overseas call centre? Those bastards!]

[Once all identity crap is verified]

We notice you have credit card with us and it isn’t activated yet, I can do that for you now yes?

Er, no thank you, I don’t really need it activated as I don’t use it.

But you have credit card and it’s not activated, I do that now yes?

No thank you. I have a credit card with another institution so I don’t need to use this one.

But I can activate for you now, over phone.

Really no that’s ok, I don’t need it.

But it would be good emergency back-up card!

[this guy is starting to irrit me]
Really no, I have a card, and my fiancé has a card, I really don’t want or need a third credit card.

But I do activation for you now Ms Rhymy!

Thanks, but no, it’s ok. I’ll do it if I ever need it. Thanks anyways.

Er, oh, ok er, you sure?

Yes, positive, thanks for calling.

*Is it just me or was this call wrong on so many levels?

  • I have perfected the art of saying "I'm not interested today, thank you for your call" and gently putting down the phone. Except when it is the Children's Hospital people ringing to ask for donations, I cave then!

  • Rhymy, why fight it? Go on, sign yourself up for some more credit... you know you want it... and after all, today is 6/6/6 (or something)... the devil was calling you.

  • Antigone: I'm still working on that art, small fry grasshopper dung beetle I am.

Angela: The devil has an interest rate.

Janina: Every Indian person who has ever called me has been one pushy bint. Next time I'm ordering papadums and seeing what they say.

Steph: I can just imagine him with some serious 'bling' made up of Gold American Express cards.
