Some dumb stuff I learnt this weekend
Don’t headbutt roses, the thorns are a major pain to remove from your forehead.
I’m a ‘weather watcher.’ When the first sign of grey in the heavens approaches, I’m out there armed with blood and bone, seedlings, seeds, or mulch. Anything to get plants in the ground, soil fertilised, and gardens mulched to take advantage of the oncoming rain.
Cursing the heavens does nothing for you, and the dogs look at you strange when you jump up and down shouting about the storm passing by. Curse you clouds that skirted my suburban gardens so in need of rain!
Some people are shits. They just are. And no amount of trying to be nice to them seems to ever change that fact that fundamentally they will always be a pain in the arse.
Family can rock when the chips are down. Went out and worked Friday night with my Mum. The little woman knew I was cheesed so what does she do? Hand me funds for the bar and tell me to go get whatever I want. Then sits me down and has a chat. I love my Mum for the fact that she just knows that somedays you just need a glass of wine and an ear to chew.
Oh and Mums are great for providing you with volunteering/community group work that seriously raises your spirits. Got dragged into a 60/70’s music night supporting some folk with special needs. Now those guys know how to have fun. Room full of 70 people and there is a group of 20 of us all singing loudly and dancing wherever there was space. Now I don’t usually sing along to Gene Pitney, but hey, it worked that night. And no, I’m not old enough to even have been around in the 60’s. 70’s well, I made it in there part way.
Cups of tea can just work so well sometimes to lift your mood.
Having an argument over who is going to brew tea is silly.
Little dogs who give you those melty eye looks, know that you’re upset and then hop up for a hug can just pick their timing perfectly.
Sometimes it’s when you’re wearing really expensive, *clean* black workpants and you end up with dusty pawprints.
Home grown carrots have the best flavour.
Some dogs love home grown carrots more than me.
Big dog paws can squash seedlings into the ground faster than I can shout ‘Get out of my garden!’
And hugs are best delivered when you’ve just woken up after the worst nightmare going and you feel all alone. Oh ok, hugs are just great all the time.
