Certified: Space Cadet

Back in soul sucking land today (work) and it's either the fact that I'm still feeling really ill, or people have just gotten dumber in the last 2 weeks. I find my brain just wandering while listening to mindless voices drivel on about endlessly incessant nothingness. I know people are speaking to me, I can hear noise, but nothing getting through.

Earth to Rom, come in Rom.

Wha'?

In other news, I'm suffering people phobia. They're everywhere! People... they're germy little, noisy personages driving me insane with their useless squabbles about nothing. Email doesn't work, you work up this morning, be happy about that! Can't book this equipment, hey, there are starving kids in Russia for goodness sake, stop being so selfish and thinking about yourself!

Time to check realestate.com and find me that deserted island. Select people allowed.

Time at home

Grins to...

*rain falling gently on a tin roof while you're trying to sleep.
*a tissue when you've got a runny nose.
*the woodstove burning away while it's about 10 degrees outside.
*a cup of tea when you're not feeling well.
*cooking a big roast lamb dinner for your bestest friend who you dont get to see very often.
*bestest friend being too busy munching and enjoying said dinner to speak!
*hugs when you feel like crap.
*my boss being understanding about me being sick and saying it's cool for me to be away for the week.
*my Mum for picking me up and taking me to the shops so I can get away from the house for a little.

Sux to...
*feeling like crap.
*being sick and fluey.
*a dog constantly barking when you're trying to sleep.
*work playing on my mind. What can I say, I hate leaving the *team* in the lurch,
*being grounded and stuck at home due to one car and that vehicle being with Riff.
*Channel 9 for sabotaging the reception on my teev and forcing me to watch it's crap-ness instead of the fun of Channel 7.

Ok, so the grins kinda outweigh the suckiness but 2 thumbs up to Riff for getting my computer to play Starcraft properly! Ok, so while being a library geek, I'm a computer nerd too, kill me.

Will be back on our regularly scheduled channel once I'm back up and about and not so crook.

I know what you did last weekend...

Well I wish someone would tell me!

For the last few days I've been sporting this egg sized bruise on my upper thigh and frankly, I have no idea how it got there. Did some fun-loving lunatic take my body out for a spin over the weekend and not let me know? Wish they'd taken me since there is nothing I can recall doing over the weekend that would warrant ending up with this big black shiner on my thigh.

Lecture at local Uni? Not there.

House cleaning Saturday? Nope, nothing there. Too high to be edge of the bed smacking while vaccuuming.

Saturday night dinner with folks? Um, not unless my brother king hit me in the thigh.

Sunday on the couch watching DVD? I have a super soft couch, there is nothing there thay could have done it.

Monday drive in the country? I was sitting in a car, on my own seat. Nope couldn't have been that.

And before anyone makes a comment about my crap, quiet weekend, dont go there. It ended a crap work week and I needed the quiet. Except some sod who got me all bruised up obviously didn't.

Ever get phantom bruises and war wounds that just appear?

Death by Enya

Oh curse the Orinoco Flow.

I work in a cubicle warren, all little islands of blue cubicles set in groups of four, with people sitting strapped to a phone. The only noise we tend to have is phones ringing, people talking, cups clinking from the kitchen next door, and the air-con maintenance guy slamming the door in the space beside us. Thats it. It's mundane and clinical and depressing, but hey, it's work.

Until someone turns on Enya.

What is the G O? I mean I'm quite ok with some ambient Cafe del Mar type music being played, but in the middle of a rush of calls, nothing jars my nerves more than some woman warbling about sailing away. Yes, I'd love to thank you very much but I CAN'T COZ I HAVE TO SIT HERE OK!!

Kill me, the batteries have died in my MP3 player.

Banking customer service

*ring ring* goes the ol’ mobile except it doesn’t really ring, it has some dicky Nokia ringtone that I can’t imitate via text.

Hello, Romilly speaking.

Hullo am I speaking to Ms Rhymy?

Um, er yes.

Hullo Ms Rhymy, my name is *owhvojgheroht* and I am from your financial institution. Today I would talk with you about your credit card you have with us. Is now a good time to talk?

Yeah, sure. [Why does this guy sound like one of the waiters at my favourite Indian restaurant? Has my bank gone all overseas call centre? Those bastards!]

[Once all identity crap is verified]

We notice you have credit card with us and it isn’t activated yet, I can do that for you now yes?

Er, no thank you, I don’t really need it activated as I don’t use it.

But you have credit card and it’s not activated, I do that now yes?

No thank you. I have a credit card with another institution so I don’t need to use this one.

But I can activate for you now, over phone.

Really no that’s ok, I don’t need it.

But it would be good emergency back-up card!

[this guy is starting to irrit me]
Really no, I have a card, and my fiancé has a card, I really don’t want or need a third credit card.

But I do activation for you now Ms Rhymy!

Thanks, but no, it’s ok. I’ll do it if I ever need it. Thanks anyways.

Er, oh, ok er, you sure?

Yes, positive, thanks for calling.

*Is it just me or was this call wrong on so many levels?

That's *Miss* IKEA to you...

I have blisters on my pointy finger and the thumb of my right hand. From an allen key. Oh the joy of furniture.

This weekend saw the Boy and I head out looking for a new dining room table and chairs, something that would sit more than 3 people and not make everyone cringe when metal chair legs scraped across tiled surface. Local chain furniture store was having a sale, so we thought we'd head along.

One office store, and chain furniture store later saw Rom sitting cross legged on the floor of the dining room assembling furniture.

Now what I can't understand is each kit comes with bolts, screws, washers etc and an allen key. There is always a screw that needs a screw driver, why the hell don't they include a screw driver? They include everything else for goodness sake.

Anyways, I used to laugh at the jokes about people assembling IKEA furniture and always having a screw spare. There was a comedian I heard once who went to an IKEA cafeteria and ordered a sandwich and was handed all the ingredients for it and had to make it himself and he ended up with a spare piece of tomato. I thought that was hilarious. Until I ended up with a spare screw. I understand now why the spare piece. For that moment when you get so jack of assembling the crap yourself and you snap that damn screw somehow. I didn't snap a screw, I in fact broke a plastic cap. Yeah, same deal, there was as spare thank goodness.

But blisters, 7 chairs (including one bastard of an office chair to build) and a dining room table later that's enough. The Boy was busy cleaning the shed, but now he can build the last blasted chair. I thought it was the blokes job to do the hunting, the furniture building and the nest finding while the chick did the gathering, the drink refilling and the requisite patting on the back and exclaiming over said nest.

Either way I'm beat. And I had to do the drink refilling and patting on back over shed cleaning. *sheesh*

dammit

I saw my ex-husband on Teev twice tonight. Smarmy bugger was up there as part of the business he had ditched me for in order to be some Operational Consultant for and make a mint each year. The whole time I was married to the schmuck I tried to tell him that money wasn't everything and if he wanted to be married to his job then so bit it.

Well he chose the job, and I went on to be happier about other things. Then he pops up on commercial television with the company listing on the stock exchange and him looking all smug on camera.

Had this urge to smack him in the chops.

Come on, I walked/was thrown away over 2 years ago, why the hell do I care?

I know my parents sure did. They vowed to start another company up and sink his. I know they wont, but their funny way of showing me support did make me grin.

At this stage there isn't enough wine in my house and I dont get it. I thought I was over the tool. Hell, my divorce came through last May, what do I care?

A day at home

I spent yesterday at home basically being all sick and sad and sorry for myself and decided to re-acquaint myself with a long lost friend. I'd scored myself a copy of 'Must Love Dogs' (now don't groan people, I'm a dog owner and when I'm sick, cheesy, romatic comedy just works for me) and settled down to watch it armed with 'Australian Sausage Sizzle' potato chips (what is the deal with Smith's and their flavours of late?!). All I can say is:
I heart John Cusak.

Truly I do. This was the guy who's smouldering looks and 'Top 5's' got me through divorceland years ago. He featured twice on my 'Top 5 break up movies of all time' and reminded me that music can do wonders for your mood (if you haven't seen and you're a fellow music head who has ever compiled a 'mix tape', go watch now. Go on, off you go).

So Mr Cusak, here is to you for lifting my fluey spirits yesterday with your witty dating repertoire, and emotionally crazy antics.
