Birthday week

Sunday saw me waking with a massive headache (non-alcamahol related I might add) and the surliest mood going. I grumped at Riff, grumped at the dogs, grumped at the washing and slothed around the house. Lunchtime rocked around and the phone rang.
[cue really cheesed sort of voice on the other end of the phone]
‘Where are you!!!’ (and yes, she even spoke the exclamation marks)
Gee, let me see, at home, being surly and grumpy, what the heck is going on?
‘You’re supposed to be here!!’
Why? What’s going on?
‘It’s your birthday lunch remember, now get over here, everyone else is late too’
WTF?!?

Apparently the birthday bbq that was supposed to be held this Saturday night had been changed to a lunch a week earlier and no one had told me? Actually, no one had been told, Mum had forgotten to let anyone know of her changes so we were all late, and Mum was annoyed with everyone. We let her know gently after lunch that she hadn’t told anyone about the lunch and we all thought I was supposed to be a dinner on Saturday night but thanks heaps for the roast lunch!
Sponge and fiancé were there in all their conversational hogging glory. Big Fella bailed up the fiancé on his way out about the sudden change in his demeanour and why he hated the family all of a sudden. Strike one more for the little sister who loves to turn people to the dark side. Party started once those 2 had left. Rest of the afternoon was spent sitting in the back of BDs boat, chewing the fat, laughing about life and generally having a great time. We also scored dinner that night. Worked for me!

Birthday day Tuesday I came home from work to a cleaned house, dinner cooked and some very smug dogs who had bought me replacement seedlings for the ones they had destroyed the day before, a new azalea for the one destroyed the day before and a new door mat. Yes, to replace the one chewed and use in tug-of-war the week before. Apparently having dogs like mine is good practice for when you have kids, they’re about as destructive I’m sure of it! Dinner was a curry, one of my favs, and I got to sit on the couch in front of the fire and relax while I got spoilt!

A package from Antigone has gone astray and ended up at Sponges place. Will be talking with Auspost very soon about why they keep dropping my things off at her house instead of carding me and denying me that joy of rocking up to the office to collect my goodies!

Saturday starts with a full body scrub and algae mousse body masque complete with wrap and massage, courtesy of Riff. Then it’s home to clean the house, and start cooking for my dinner with the parents, and a friend of mine. Seafood all round complete with bbq’d skewers, lots of salads and my favourite potato bake. Should end the week on a top note!

Birthday spoils:
A new esky, some bbq’ing tools, packet each of snakes and some strawberries and cream, bunnings vouchers, coles myser vouchers, an electric wok, a casket ticket including a lovely letter and phonecall from the mother-in-law to be, a long distance call from a longtime friend and past ex who also sent my birthday parcel to my ex-husbands house, and a wayward parcel that I will collect tomorrow from the Sponge. And lots of wishes via sms and from all you guys!

  • So birthday this year not as bad as expected?

Your mum is a cracker, throwing you a party and not inviting anyone!

  • Birthday this year hasn't been too bad at all, highlight was me going outside while my sister was inside monopolizing the lunch. Had to go tip the very flat beer she had poured me into a garden without causing any 'waves'.

And my Mum rocks, she's making me have the bbq at my house now so I get to do all the hard work! :-D
