Change is in the air
Right, so ok I was a little cheesed by the lack of employment with ideal organisation, however maybe this is one of those karma 'meant to be' type things where it frankly, was not meant to be?
Ever since I did work experience as a wee 15 year old in my local library, my big career thing was to one day become a branch librarian. Yeah, thats right, the chick who runs the library. And no, that does not mean I get to read books all day. It means I monitor staffing levels, do collection development, budgeting, resource management, all sorts of fun businessy type stuff and the upside is, there are lots and lots of books involved and I get the new ones first before any of my customers muwahahahahaha. But I digress.
Anyhow, the job that waltzed past me was precisely that. The downside being it was in another locality that was further away from my home. Ideally I would like a position with the local library service except it's still being run by the same women who were there when I was working there over 6 years ago, and they are still career driftwood, old and smelly. So when one finally retires (or dies, I dont mind which, they were all cows to me really), then there might be a chance. Until then I'm opting for a seachange. Yes, kiddies, I'm going back to school.
For over 2 years now I've been volunteering with a local respite service, helping out with people with special needs. We do fun stuff, go on activities, hold dance parties, all the stuff the people do for fun, except some of these guys need a little help and support. So I do that. It's fun, I go to movies, dinners, dances, shopping etc and it's all good. Well, an opening is coming up to actually get paid to do it, so what the hell! I'm going to go back to TAFE (Open Learning of course, still need to work for fundolies), get a Cert IV in Co-ordinator of Activities and Services (Aged Care and Disability) and see how I go with that. Where I live there are a plethora of aged care facilities, and respite centres, and jobs always happening, so maybe it's time to do something different. Will get me through until I find some bloke who thinks I'm ok to marry and kids might happen, how knows? If this all works out, I'll no longer be a library chick, well deep down I will be always, but I'll just go do something more fun. And work in an area where people actually appreciate what support you give them, instead of being rude little bastards and abusing me on a phone all the time. Nuts to them, they can get some other patsy.
So yeah, decision pretty much made, just waiting for info pack now, might see if housemate wants to do the course with me, then we can both keep car-pooling. ;-)
